NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,595,660 on Wednesday as 13,823 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 152,718 with 162 new deaths.

There are still 197,201 active cases in the country, while 10,245,741 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment. This is the first time in the past several months when the number of active cases in the country fell below the 200,000-mark. (India-COVID-19)

NEW DELHI -- At least 13 people were killed and 18 others injured, some of them critically, after several vehicles collided in India's eastern state of West Bengal early Wednesday, police said.

The accident took place in Dhupguri city of Jalpaiguri district, about 645 km north of Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.

Police said the deadly accident was caused due to the low visibility in the area. (India-Traffic Accident)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Wednesday named Chung Eui-yong, former top national security adviser, as the new foreign minister, according to the presidential Blue House.

CANBERRA -- The leader of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has flagged mandatory coronavirus vaccines for high-risk settings.

Andrew Barr, the Chief Minister of the ACT, said that there was merit in requiring people entering high-risk settings such as aged care facilities to be inoculated against COVID-19.

"We've had some discussions at national cabinet level around certain occupations that it would be a prerequisite," he was quoted by The Canberra Times on Wednesday. (Australia-COVID-19)
