SAN FERNANDO, Oct. 20 (PIA) - It's all systems go for the conduct of Dagyaw 2020: Open Government Virtual Townhall Meeting in Ilocos Region on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Dagyaw, a Hiligaynon word that directly translates to "togetherness", was chosen as the event brand because it exemplifies the Filipino spirit or bayanihan.
The conduct of Dagyaw 2020 is anchored in the objective of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 Sub Task Group on Governance which is to ensure people-centered, clean, technology-enabled, and responsive governance in addressing COVID-19 and to restart social and economic activities.
For the Region 1 leg, the regional offices of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will lead the activity which will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on livelihood and employment.
DILG-1 Regional Director James Fadrilan said Dagyaw is a venue for government agencies, civil society organizations, and the constituents to converge and discuss relevant issues.
"For Region 1, we invited government agencies with mandate on the provision of jobs amid COVID-19 pandemic," Fadrilan said.
The regional director said the government is really bent on addressing the needs of displaced and retrenched workers because of the economic problem brought about by COVID-19.
"Among other issues, it is really jobs that we have to address for our people to have source of livelihood and for our economy to recover," he said.
He added: "By creating jobs and creating opportunities for the people, we can again restore or begin to build up the economy which is really worst-affected. By informing the people of job opportunities, we give them chance to be part of the economy again and pave the way for recovery.
Around 300 participants from various sectors are expected to attend the activity via Zoom app. It will likewise be broadcasted live on Facebook for wider audience. The program shall start at 9 a.m.
"This is the new normal of interacting with our constituents sa kabila ng pandemic na ating kinakakaharap," said Fadrilan.
Last year, the regional event in the Ilocos was conducted at the Sison Auditoritum in Lingayen, Pangasinan. It was attended by some 800 stakeholders. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
