Minister of State for Defence Dr. M. M. Pallam Raju has asked the people to be more vigilant to prevent militant attacks in the wake of serial blasts that took place in Mumbai.

Talking to reporters here on the sidelines of a function, Raju said: "It is advisable for the public to be vigilant to ensure that such incidents don't happen because terrorism is threat-any where, any time. It can't be contained through government's efforts alone.".

"I don't think it is time for finger pointing but to assess where exactly the weakness was and how we have not been able to detect it. We have strengthened intelligence-gathering mechanism. The important thing is to prevent the repeat of such incident and to ensure that action is taken against those, who have perpetuated this heinous crime," he added.

At least 18 persons have died and another 134 persons are reported to have been injured in the Mumbai blasts. The condition of around 13 persons is reported to be critical.

The three serial blasts rocked Zaveri Bazaar, a popular jewellery market, the busy business area around Opera House and the crowded Dader area of Central Mumbai between 6.45 p.m. and 7.04 p.m. on Wednesday. (ANI)
