McDonalds trucks in UAE to run on own oil
Calcutta News.Net Monday 4th July, 2011
McDonalds in the United Arab Emirates has announced that from now on its trucks will be fuelled with oil from its own supplies as part of the company’s local efforts to be ‘greener’.
Dubai-based Neutral Fuels has been working with McDonalds outlets in the UAE to recycle its used oil, used in the frying of potato chips, into 100% bio diesel that can fuel the company’s fleet of delivery trucks in the Gulf nation.
Karl W. Feilder, the chairman of the Neutral Group, told local and international media it was exciting to see a Gulf-based company taking recycling seriously. “It's the first time we are doing it with a fuel that burns 50 percent cleaner than normal diesel and has a lower carbon footprint because it's coming from a waste vegetable product.”
“McDonald’s UAE has demonstrated a passionate and long-term commitment to investing in environmental initiatives,” said Rafic Fakih, managing director and partner of McDonald’s UAE.
McDonalds is also a partner in the UAE environmental watchdog, the Emirates Environment Group.
