Global organ traffic:Turk and Israeli charged

Calcutta News.Net
Monday 13th June, 2011

An EU prosecutor has indicted Israeli and Turkish nationals over a human organ trafficking allegation.

The prosecutor, based in Kosovo has claimed Israel’s Moshe Harel and Turkish national Yusuf Sonmez were allegedly involved in the "unlawful exercise of medical activity."

The EU Rule of Law mission in Kosovo said the pair had conspired in 2008 with Kosovo doctors to perform dozens of operations on impoverished organ donors.

The donors were allegedly promised money in exchange for their kidneys.

While Sonmez and Harel are currently at large, seven other people from Kosovo are currently on trial over the organ trafficking matters.

Kosovo law forbids the removal and transplant of organs.
