18 Maoists named in Bihar cops' abduction case
Calcutta News.Net Wednesday 8th September, 2010
A case has been registered against 18 named Maoists and 150 unknown people for killing eight policemen and abducting four in Bihar's Lakhisarai district, police said Wednesday.
'The case was registered on the basis of the statement of station house officer of Kajra police station Indradev Paswan,' Lakhisarai Superintendent of Police Ranjeet Kumar Mishra said.
Three abducted policemen walked free Monday after being released by Maoists -- ending eight days of tense hostage drama that saw a fourth kidnapped policeman being gunned down by the Left-wing rebels.
The four policemen were abducted by Maoists after a six-hour gunfight in Lakhisarai Aug 29 that also left seven policemen dead and 10 injured. One of the abducted cop, Lucas Tete, was killed by the rebels Sep 3.
The Maoists claimed the gunfight was in retaliation for the killing of their leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad and a journalist on the night of July 1-2 in Andhra Pradesh.
