Student dies as ceiling falls

A student was killed and 13 others were injured Tuesday when the ceiling of their classroom collapsed in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district, police said.

The accident took place at the government-aided Salempur Junior High School in Maharjpur area. The 13-year-old Shricharan died on the spot.

'All the injured are being treated in hospital. The condition of three or four students is stated to be serious,' police inspector Panna Lal told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
