Modi honours school teachers
Calcutta News.Net Saturday 4th September, 2010
Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal and Chief Minister Narendra Modi Saturday honoured 33 school teachers at a function at Town Hall here on the eve of Teachers' Day.
The award distribution ceremony, followed by the chief minister's 90-minute question-answer session with students, was telecast via satellite to 1.5 crore school students across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Beniwal asked teachers to learn from the life of former president Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is celebrated in the country as Teachers' Day.
She said extra efforts have to be made to involve teachers in creating awareness and ensuring their participation in educating those living in villages and slums, unlettered women and adults.
