No strings attached aid-offer from South to North Korea
Calcutta News.Net Tuesday 31st August, 2010
South Korea has offered North Korea unconditional aid for flood damage which has affected the country and its people.
The magnanimous gesture on the part of South Korea follows the accusation against North Korea that it sank a South Korean warship in March.
South Korea’s Red Cross has said it will send US$8.3 million worth of flood-aid to North Korea in an offer the north is yet to accept.
The gesture has been described as unconditional.
North Korea was hit by heavy rains in July and August, leaving its northern areas under water.
The country's people are in urgent need of medical kits, emergency food and supplies.
The aid-offer was only made hours after the United States imposed new sanctions on the North in response to the sinking of the Cheonan on 26th March.
