US jungle-park stalked by tiger
Calcutta News.Net Saturday 28th August, 2010
An escaped tiger has been confined at a holiday theme park in Florida after escaping on the weekend.
The tiger was recaptured at Jungle Island on MacArthur Causeway in Miami after frantic park-goers were secured in holding area while a search was launched by park rangers.
The tiger known as Mahesh was later found by trainers, who managed to re-cage him without the use of tranquilizers.
The incident is now under investigation by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the tiger near to the entrance of Jungle Island at the flamingo pond before it was recaptured.
Jungle Island has several Bengal tigers, which reach 6-9 feet in length.
A statement later released by Jungle Island, said park-goers had been shepherded into secured buildings within two minutes of Mahesh’s escape.
It said "At no point were any of the animals not being closely monitored by Jungle Island animal trainers. Seasoned trainers were in control of the situation at all times."
