Boeing announces more delays for Dreamliner

All Nippon Airways (ANA) in Japan will have to wait even longer for their first Dreamliner, Boeing has indicated that its new plane will be delayed by several weeks due to a problem with getting parts.

Boeing, which is already two years behind on delivery of the first of its new liners, announced Friday that they would be delayed by a further few weeks after a UK manufacturer failed to deliver an engine in time.

The company now says the plane will only be ready by the middle of 2011’s first quarter.

Rolls Royce, the company building the engines for the 787, saw shares fall slightly in Friday’s morning trading following the announcement.

ANA has ordered 55 of the aircraft and said the delay was “extremely regrettable” and has reportedly asked Boeing what impact their current delays might have on their long-term ability to keep to production schedules for the Dreamliner.

The airline was meant to begin flying its new fleet of Dreamliners in 2008.
