Divorce brings out Tiger Woods and wife
Calcutta News.Net Wednesday 25th August, 2010
Tiger Woods, speaking prior to the tee-off in his first US PGA playoff event, has spoken about the errors he made prior to his divorce, which was finalized this week.
The 14-time major golf champion, speaking at a press conference, said he had been saddened that his own misdeeds and mistakes had doomed his marriage.
Woods, speaking about the divorce brought about by his multiple affairs in a scandal exposed last November, said: "My actions certainly led us to this decision. I made a lot of errors in my life. That’s something I’m going to have to live with."
Asked if he felt relief now that the divorce was complete, Woods said: "I don’t think that’s the word. I think it’s more sadness."
Elin Nordegren, a 30-year-old Swedish former model who married Woods in October 2004 in Barbados, has also stated that she was put "through hell" by her husband’s string of infidelities.
Ms Nordegren told People magazine there was no truth to speculation that she had hit Woods on the night he crashed his car outside their Florida estate, the incident that sparked the revelations about his numerous extramarital affairs.
She said: "There was never any violence inside or outside our home. The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous."
Nordegren said she had no idea her husband was cheating on her while she had been at home dutifully looking after the children and going through another pregnancy.
She said she had since struggled with insomnia, weight loss and losing her hair.
Declining to speak about the settlement from the divorce, she said: "Money can’t buy happiness or put my family back together."
