Sensex closes 104 points lower

A benchmark index for Indian equities Tuesday ended trade with a 104-point loss. Realty and metal scrips added to the overall drag in the markets.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,407.01 points, closed at 18,304.82 points (provisional), 104.53 points or 0.57 percent down from its previous close at 18,409.35 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was 0.73 percent lower at 5,503.25 points.

Broader markets indices were also subdued, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.8 percent down and the BSE smallcap index 0.71 percent lower.

Weighing the markets down were realty and metal stocks, while consumer durables and FMCG scrips saw some buying.
