Scientists testing for problems in Chinese milk

Calcutta News.Net

Chinese scientists have been told to re-test the country’s milk products as officials investigate claims that a brand of infant formula caused apparent breast growth in a small number of babies.

While tests are being centered on dairy products made by China-based Synutra International Inc., the company named in the latest milk taint case, other dairy companies and even breast milk are being checked.

Synutra has rejected claims that its products were tainted as being highly irresponsible.

The company has assured the government it does not add hormones to its products.

State media said the babies with apparent breast growth were found to have abnormal levels of the hormones estradiol and prolactin, which stimulate lactation.
