One more dies of swine flu in Bengal, toll three

West Bengal recorded its third swine flu death this year with a 66-year-old man succumbing to the Influenza A HINI virus in a private hospital, health officials said Thursday.

Meanwhile, nine more people tested positive for the flu, taking the number of cases in the state this year to 91.

'A 66-year-old man was admitted to the Apollo Hospital with severe hypotension and metabolic acidosis on July 28 and died the same day. His throat swab reported confirmed for Influenza A HIN1 on July 29 (Thursday),' the department said in a statement. A 61-year-old woman died Wednesday at a private hospital.

'Nine confirmed cases of swine flu were reported today (Thursday). The total confirmed cases now stands at 91,' the statement added.

Thirty-eight people are admitted to various hospitals, and two of them are critical, it added.

Earlier, a 58-year-old man died of swine flu.

In 2009, a total of 135 people were affected by swine flu in the state. However, there were no casualties.
