Indian domestic airline market may have new competitor
Calcutta News.Net Sunday 25th July, 2010
Air India's low-cost arm, AI Express, is hoping to expand its domestic operations.
While AI does not have a large domestic capability at the moment, it is hoping to soon compete against local operators in terms of passenger carriage.
Local airlines, IndiGo and SpiceJet and Kingfisher, overtook AI in terms of domestic market share a long time ago and the AI domestic turnaround strategy will rest on the airline's overall financial situation.
The company is currently going through financial restructuring and discussions with unions.
