US passenger airliners will soon have cargo restrictions

Calcutta News.Net
Tuesday 20th July, 2010

The US government will soon enforce its requirement for screening of all air cargo on passenger airliners.

Business has expressed fears that the new laws will lead to higher shipping costs and a slowdown in deliveries.

Air cargo security screening will start on August 1st, when all cargo on passenger flights must be screened under the 9/11 Act of 2007.

Many flights carry some cargo in addition to passengers' luggage.

Air cargo, which generates billions of dollars in business revenue in the US each year, will essentially be checked by freight forwarders, who book cargo on airlines.
