Palestinian Authority restricts workers on Israeli sites
Calcutta News.Net Sunday 7th March, 2010
The Palestinian Authority has told workers to try to be consistent with government policy on the West Bank settlements.
The authority has decided to move to prevent Palestinian workers from taking jobs in Israeli settlements, where construction projects have allowed some Palestinian workers to make their money from building homes for Israeli settlers.
Other Palestinian workers work in Israeli-controlled factories due to their poor economic circumstances.
While Palestinians strongly oppose the Israeli settlements, an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 Palestinians work on building them.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on the weekend he would sign into law a decree that Palestinians working in settlements in the future would be breaking the law.
The legislation would also ban the sale of West Bank settlement products in Palestinian shops.
