Ryanair, the no frills Irish airline, is about to set up a new base in Malta.

It will base one aircraft on the Mediterranean island as it goes about its plans to open up new routes through the airport.

A total of six new routes have been scheduled, bringing the projected total number of movements to and from Malta to 120 flights per week.

Ryanair has said the new base will cost it around US$70 million on flights from Malta to Billund, Bologna, Krakow, Marseille, Seville and Valencia.
