Chinese schools blamed for Google breach

Calcutta News.Net
Sunday 21st February, 2010

Schools in China have insisted they were not behind the hacking of Google computers.

The two prominent schools in China had been accused by Google China of stealing some of its computer code and trying to break into the accounts of human rights activists opposed to China's policies.

Goggle said security investigators had traced the hacking to computers at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School in China.

But school spokespeople have since insisted the allegations are baseless.

Lanxiang school officials said their students had been on winter break when the hacking occurred.

But Google is convinced the hacking was instituted from the schools and has said it’s prepared to shut down its China-based search engine.
