Singles' heaven: Beijing's "I'm Looking For You" supermarket!
Calcutta News.Net Tuesday 9th February, 2010
New Delhi, Feb 9 : A Beijing supermarket may become a popular hangout for couples and singles looking for love this Valentine's Day.
The "I'm Looking For You" market opened last November for China's unofficial "Singles Day" which is on the 11th of that month.
And since its launch the supermarket has attracted over 1,000 clients and successfully matched more than 50 couples.
This supermarket offers a venue where singles can meet and charges are a mere 20yuan for registration, reports the China Daily.
Members list their names, ages, income and occupation, with a picture, and this profile is then made available publicly. They are also what kind of partner they would like.
The supermarket's manager Gao Shan said the concept was developed to cater to people's need of meeting in a safe, friendly and relaxing environment and by the negative experiences some have had with online dating.
She added: "The love supermarket was not created to satisfy a holiday need...It was created so that singles can have the opportunity to leave behind their single life."
Qu Hui, a 25-year-old teacher, said: "I wish I could find my better half, that is my greatest hope. But if that doesn't happen, I hope I can use this place to meet more friends. After all, I am a teacher, so the people that I can meet and socialise with are very limited."
