Chinese car company expresses interest in Saab
Calcutta News.Net Tuesday 8th December, 2009
Officials from the General Motors Co in Detroit have been in discussions with BAIC, China's fifth largest car maker, over a partial takeover of the of the Saab brand.
Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Group has reportedly told GM it has no interest in acquiring Saab's production hub in Trollhattan, Sweden, but it would still be interested in the cars tooling and technology.
BAIC lacks its own car brand and would set up production in China based on older Saab vehicles.
A partial sale of Saab technology to BAIC could allow GM to liquidate the other company assets.
