Two years to start filming my movie: Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Calcutta News.Net Monday 23rd November, 2009 (IANS)
His script is ready and he has finalised the actors and the producer. Yet, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee will take two years to begin work on his directorial debut because he first wants to fulfil his commitments to the fashion world.
'It was a natural progression (to film making). I have everything finalised - script, actors, producer. The only thing I don't have is time. I still have to wait for two more years to start this project because right now my hands are full with two film projects and my store openings,' Mukherjee told IANS in an interview.
Apart from designing for his label 'Sabyasachi', the Kolkata-based designer has done the costumes for movies like 'Black', 'Baabul' and 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag'. His current projects include 'Paa', 'Raavan' and 'Guzaarish'.
Mukherjee's has taken care of Vidya Balan's wardrobe in 'Paa' and the actress is getting rave reviews about her looks in the movie.
Elaborating about the look for Vidya, Mukherjee said: 'It is so easy to design for Vidya. She is a beautiful woman. In the past, all efforts to make her look beautiful have been overdone. Designers have tried to force their own style on her and then it turned out to be a disaster.'
'She has a curvy figure, so why should she be apologetic about it? Previously there have been attempts to make her look beautiful on the screen. I have just reversed the process,' he added.
Vidya is playing Amitabh Bachchan's mother and Abhishek's wife in 'Paa'.
'She plays an idealistic girl and mother of a special child in the movie. So her attire speaks of her identity. I have dressed her up in cotton - be it suits or saris. There is not much drastic change in her attire once she becomes mother in the movie because it is just a transition in her life,' Mukherjee explained.
'The fabrics remain the same, just the silhouettes change to suit her personality. Vidya looks fabulous in Indian clothes, especially a sari,' he added.
Mukherjee recently opened his first flagship store in the capital. In the next few months, he will open stores in Kolkata and Mumbai, and given that, has decided against participate in the Lakme Fashion Week next year.
'My hands are full right now. I don't want to mess up things. So it's better to take one step at a time and focus on that only,' Mukherjee pointed out. Email this story to a friend
