Calcutta News.Net
Sunday 12th July, 2009

Militants linked to the Al Qaeda group have freed an Italian Red Cross worker in the southern Philippines.

After six months in jungle captivity, Eugenio Vagni said he had been treated well but had lived in constant fear.

Mr Vagni, who officials have described as being in good health, said he always felt he would be beheaded by the militants, who were from the
Abu Sayyaf group.

Gunmen handed him over to officials near Maimbung township on southern Jolo Island.
