Police in London have ruled out any further investigation into claims that journalists at a Rupert Murdoch owned newspaper hacked into the phones of celebrities and MP’s.
The News of the World is alleged to have run stories after hacking in to private phone calls.
London police have said they have no new evidence on fresh allegations that private investigators were hired to hack into the voicemail messages of mobile phones.
According to the Guardian newspaper, the victims may have included former British deputy prime minister John Prescott, Australian model Elle Macpherson and American actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
Some sports stars and members of the royal family were also named by the Guardian.
Two years ago two men working for the News of the World were jailed for hacking into the mobile phones of royal aides. Email this story to a friend
