Blasts in Madhya Pradesh explosives units kills 10
Calcutta News.Net Monday 6th July, 2009 (IANS)
Ten people were killed in blasts that ripped through two factories manufacturing explosives in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli district, police said Monday.
The incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. Sunday at two private factories -- Indian Detonators Ltd and Rajasthan Chemical Explosives Ltd -- manufacturing detonators and other explosives used in mining.
The blasts were so powerful that both factories in the Baliyari Industrial Area of Singrauli, about 780 km from the state capital, were gutted. There was a total blackout in the area as power supply snapped.
There are a number of coal mines and other factories manufacturing explosives in Singrauli district.
'The bodies of 10 people have been recovered and the 35 injured were referred to hospital. Rescue work is still underway,' Singrauli Collector P. Narahari told IANS over the phone.
'Rescue operations are on but no other body had been recovered from the rubble,' added A.K. Shrivastava, inspector general of police of Rewa range in which Singrauli district falls.
'The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined,' he added. Email this story to a friend
