Skill development training for Delhi domestic helps
Calcutta News.Net Saturday 4th July, 2009 (IANS)
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday launched a skill development programme to train about 100,000 domestic workers here in a variety of subjects ranging from personal hygiene to first-aid.
The initiative would also educate such workers about intra-personal communication skills, components of urban meals, management of urban kitchens, serving cooked food in formal environment and maintaining kitchen gardens.
The initiative is a joint effort of the labour and employment ministry, the Delhi government and the International Labour Organisation.
The chief minister described it as a major initiative which would pave the way for the skill development of domestic helps working in the capital and its adjoining regions.
'Ninety percent of such workers receive no formal education and training though they work with full commitment in their workplace and are deprived of any opportunity of their skill development,' said an official statement here. Email this story to a friend
