Leaflet drop warns Gaza residents of impending strikes
Calcutta News.Net Wednesday 7th January, 2009
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been warned to take cover against Israeli air strikes.
Thousands of leaflets have been dropped by Israeli aircraft over houses in Rafah in southern Gaza, warning people to leave the area.
Rafah is the site of the closed border crossing between the Palestinian territory and Egypt.
It is also peppered with an extensive network of illegal tunnels into Egypt, which are used by Hamas militants and civilians to smuggle arms and other supplies.
The Israeli military has been relentless in targeting the tunnels over the past days.
Dozens of doctors are gathered on the Egyptian side of the border with Rafah, but have been frustrated in their attempts to get into the area to help people wounded in Israeli raids.
