U.S. stocks bounce back

U.S. stocks clawed back a substantial part of Monday's one trillion loss of capitlisation Tuesday.

A day after the Dow Jone industrial average lost 680 points, the benchmark index closed up 270.00 points or 3.31% at 8,419.09.

The Nasdaq Composite was up 51.73 points or 3.73% at 1,449.80.

The Standard and Poor's 500 was ahead 32.60 points or 3.99% at 848.81.

The U.S. dollar was mixed around the New York close. It rose against the Japanese yen to 93.26, and against the Swiss franc to 1.2068. Against the Canadian dollar, the U.S. unit climbed to 1.2518.

Th euro gained ground to 1.2710. The British pound edged up to 1.4898, while the Australian dollar, despite a 1% official nterest rate reduction Tuesday to 4.75%, rose to .6432.
