Hong Kong wins big in business travel awards
Calcutta News.Net Saturday 22nd November, 2008
China’s frequent travellers showed their approval for impeccable service, voting 32 travel and hospitality providers as best in their category in the 2008 Business Traveller China Travel Awards.
The roster of accolades included Favourite City in the World, Best Airports in China and the World, eight airline category awardees and 20 hotel and accommodation awardees, out of which 15 were best in each city within China.
Launched in 2005, the awards were again distributed before an audience of 380 of the industry’s leading players in China and around the region. The dinner affair, graced by the presence of guest of honour and singing legend Frances Yip, was held at the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt on the Bund on Friday night.
China’s fascination with Hong Kong remained undimmed, as magazine readers crowned it their Favourite City in the World and Hong Kong International Airport, the Best Airport in China.
Joining the select club of winners this year were Singapore Airlines which garnered Best Airline First Class, and Cathay Pacific for Best Airline Economy Class.
The Best New Business Hotel in China produced not just one but two winners: The Westin Beijing Financial Street, winner in 2007, and Hyatt on the Bund. (A hotel is qualified to run for this category for up to three years.)
But there were lots of repeat winners. Among them were Air China for the Best Chinese Airline serving China, Grand Hyatt as Best Hotel Brand in the World, Shangri-La as Best Hotel Brand in China, Ascott International as Best Serviced Residence Brand in China and Mission Hills Resort & Spa as Best Golf Resort in China.
“In these challenging financial times, our winners have proven their commitment to providing their customers with quality service of the highest standards,” said Peggy Teo, Managing Director of Panacea Publishing Asia and publisher of Business Traveller China, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific, MIX - Asia’s Creative Meetings Magazine and www.businesstraveller.asia.
“Their efforts have not gone unnoticed by their customers, and the awards are proof positive of this acknowledgement.”
In the July/August and September/October 2008 issues of Business Traveller China, 50,000 poll forms were dispatched to travel-savvy readers of the magazine. A response rate of 9 percent was received. Results will appear in the January/February 2009 issue of Business Traveller China.
For the third year running, proceeds of the Silent Auction, held in conjunction with the awards, will benefit the Chi Heng Foundation, which assists the children of AIDS victims in China through educational and liveihood programmes. Renowned songstress Frances Yip, patron of the Honorary Patron of Foundation, handed out the awards to the winners.
Business Traveller China, now in its sixth year of publishing, is one of nine regional editions of Business Traveller, published by Panacea Publishing Ltd. Its sister publications are distributed in the Asia-Pacific, UK, US, Germany, Middle East, Hungary, Denmark and South Africa.
