Diwali promotes brotherhood, says PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday greeted the nation on the occasion of Diwali, saying the festival promoted "brotherhood and fellow feeling" among the people.

In a message, the prime minister said Diwali "celebrates the victory of good over evil and reflects the true spirit of our composite culture".

"It also heralds the approach of winter and the beginning of the sowing season," he said. "May this festival of light bring joy, happiness, peace and prosperity to our people."
