Calcutta News.Net Saturday 11th October, 2008 (IANS)
A 55-year-old man allegedly killed his sister, son and niece early Saturday in Orissa's Mayurbhanj district to appease Hindu god Hanuman, the police said.
Bansidhar Madhial killed his 50-year-old sister, 15-year-old son and 10-year-old niece, hitting their heads with a peace of wood at his home in Ambajoda village in Mayurbhanj, some 230 km from here, said the police.
"His sister and niece died on the spot and his son died at the local hospital. The man attempted to attack his three daughters and wife also, but they managed to escape," Bareni Das, Betanati police station in-charge, told IANS on phone.
Madhial use to perform rituals, and the police suspect the murders were intended to as human sacrifice because he killed the victims before the photo of Hanuman, Das said.
The police have arrested Madhial and seized the peace of wood he used in the killing, Das added.
