Air India flight returns after smoke alarm in cockpit

An Air India flight to London returned to Delhi airport 30 minutes after takeoff when smoke alarm went off in the cockpit. The plane took off again after two hours, an airline official said.

The Boeing 777-300 aircraft with 115 passengers on board took off from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 7.30 a.m. Half an hour after being airborne, the pilot noticed the smoke alarm and decided to return, a spokesperson said.

The flight then took off again at 10 a.m.

Air India spokesperson Jitender Bhargava told IANS from Mumbai: 'The flight took off at 10 a.m. There was no major problem. Sometimes it happens that there is excess moisture in the cockpit, and it could lead to false indications.'

'Whatever problem was there has been sorted out,' he said.

On Thursday, a Go Air flight from Mumbai landed at the airport safely with a damaged nosewheel.
