Mumbai police arrest e-mail terror suspects
Calcutta News.Net Monday 6th October, 2008
In India, Mumbai Police have made a major breakthrough in finding the authors of terror emails sent by the Indian Mujahideen prior to the Ahmedabad and New Delhi serial bombings in July.
Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor has told reporters that three Internet engineers who allegedly sent threatening emails have been arrested.
He said the Internet technicians were arrested over their probable involvement in sending the emails from three locations using wireless equipment.
He said the men had visited Mumbai five times, to conduct surveys of various areas to find suitable wi-fi hot spots before sending messages a few minutes before the bombings.
17 others have recently been arrested over the string of terror bombings.
Preliminary interrogations have discovered the accused had planned to carry out more bomb blasts in Mumbai during a Hindu festival.
All of those arrested are highly educated and are aged between 20 and 35.
