Government may ease commercial borrowing norms

The central government is looking at different options to soften norms for external commercial borrowings (ECBs), a finance ministry official said here Monday.

"Yes, you cannot rule out the possibility of easing ECB norms," Ashok Chawla, secretary in the economic affairs department, told reporters here.

Chawla said the government is committed to ensuring that infrastructure projects did not face any fund crunch.

Asked by when the ECB norms would be eased, Chawla said: "In the near future".
