Tripura principal arrested for sexual abuse of woman colleague
Calcutta News.Net Monday 8th September, 2008 (IANS)
The principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in south Tripura has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a woman teacher, officials said here Monday.
'We arrested the principal, D. Gunasekharan, Sunday evening after the woman teacher filed an FIR,' said a police spokesman.
The spokesman said after the arrest of the principal, a section of his students went on a rampage in the south Tripura district town Udaipur, 55 km from here, and damaged private properties of shops and other establishments.
'An assistant commissioner of JNV Samiti from Shillong, who came here to investigate the molestation case, reportedly incited the students to go berserk to cover-up the case,' the police spokesman added.
Students of various educational institutions in the temple city boycotted classes Monday and organised protest rallies, demanding severe punishment to the JNV principal.
Another FIR has been lodged against the principal and the assistant commissioner for provoking the students.
A former principal of the same school is facing a life term for raping a teenaged girl student.
