Vodafone India tries to find finance for iPhone buyers

In India, Vodafone, one of the two license holders for the latest Apple iPhone is looking at easy finance schemes to help sell the product in the country.

Vodafone is attempting to persuade large banks to provide monthly installment schemes for six and 12 months.

The Apple iPhone 3G was launched on Thursday.

In India, the iPhone is priced at just over US$700 for the base model.

There were over 200,000 pre-bookings for the phone in India.

I’m in India, and had been looking forward to this launch. But since the prices have been announced, I’ve realised I can’t afford to buy one, reason, it is priced more than my monthly salary and no I don’t fall into the lower income bracket in India I’m somewhere in the upper middle.
Even this finance scheme would find few takers as the iphone is just too pricey here...
