Servant arrested for theft, jewellery recovered

A resident of Nepal who worked as a cook in a southwest Delhi house was arrested for robbery and jewellery worth Rs.400,000 and some cash recovered from him, police said Thursday.
The theft had taken place at the home of one Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Naraina Vihar, on Aug 17/18 night when he had gone with his family for the engagement ceremony of his daughter at a hotel in Connaught Place.
All the servants of the family as well as those in the neighbourhood were questioned and it was found that a male servant of a neighbour had stayed there on the night of the function.
According to police, "When police went to search his quarters, he tried to flee but was arrested. He is a resident of Nepal and was working as a cook."
"On search of his quarters, the stolen property was recovered from his shoes," a senior police official said.
He was working as a servant for the 0last three years. Further investigations are on, said police.
