Samiti finally agrees for talks, but extends Jammu shutdown

The Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS), leading an agitation for restoration of land to the Amarnath shrine management, late Tuesday agreed for talks with a panel set up by Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra but decided to extend the Jammu shutown till Aug 25.
'The four-member panel headed by S.S. Bloeria, advisor to the governor, has yet again invited the SASS for commencing a dialogue to evolve an amicable solution on all the core issues,' a government spokesman said.
In response, a Samiti spokesman said it had decided to 'go in for talks'.
'Other details like who all will represent our side and when the talks would be held will be made known to the media Wednesday,' he said.
The governor set up the committee comprising Bleoria, retired high court judge G.D. Sharma, University of Jammu vice-chancellor Amitabh Mattoo and Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) CEO and the governor's principal secretary B.B. Vyas to hold talks with the Samiti.
The Samiti spokesman said the Jammu shutdown, which was to end Wednesday evening, will now go on till Aug 25. 'This is part of our agitation to make the government to accept our demands.'
During the day, more than 100,000 women courted arrests across Jammu region as they forced their entry into police stations.
It was the second day of the three-day court arrest agitation of the Samiti, a conglomerate of over 30 Hindu groups, agitating for restoration of the land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
