RSS sends Muslim delegation to Srinagar for peace talks
Calcutta News.Net Thursday 7th August, 2008 (IANS)
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Thursday flagged off a 30-member Muslim delegation to campaign for peace in Jammu and Kashmir where protests for and against the transfer of land to the Amarnath temple trust has led to much violence.
The Muslim delegation, called the Rashtravadi Muslim Manch (RMM) or the Nationalist Muslim Front, a group backed by the Hindu outfit, was flagged off from the Red Fort.
Speaking to reporters, RSS leader K.S. Sudarshan said the Muslim delegation would hold discussions with different sections of the society to try and find a way out of the land row.
Sudarshan said: 'The land allocated for the Amarnath pilgrims needs to restored. This is not a view held by Hindus only, but by people of all religions across the country.'
He said the delegation would start its peace campaign from the Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
Hitting out at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railways Minister Lalu Prasad for his remarks that the RSS should be banned, Sudarshan said: 'The demand reflects his nature and mentality.'
'We stand for the fact that Muslims in India love their motherland. Anyone who stands in our way is not a true Muslim or a Hindu,' said RMM convenor Mohammed Afzal.
'If there is any Muslim in the Kashmir Valley who feels that Pakistan is his homeland, then we will respectfully lead him to the borders,' he said.
