Uttar Pradesh police bust inter-state gang of robbers
Calcutta News.Net Wednesday 23rd July, 2008 (IANS)
The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police Wednesday busted an inter-state gang of robbers, police officials said here.
Six persons, alleged to be members of the gang, have been arrested.
The police also claimed to have solved over 200 cases of robberies committed by the gang in various parts of the country in the past five years.
'Besides committing robberies in Uttar Pradesh, the criminals have also committed similar crimes in Tirupati, Vijayawada, Amravati, Guntur, Kolkata, Nagpur, Bangalore, Aurangabad, Chennai and Delhi', sub-inspector Triveni Singh of the STF told IANS.
The arrests were made in the wee hours of Wednesday from the Chinhat locality after a brief encounter. 'Besides some country-made pistols and fake documents, we recovered tools used in making duplicate keys', added Singh.
Singh also explained the modus operandi of the gang. 'After identifying a jewellery shop, an electrical appliances shop or a garment shop, the gang would make duplicate keys and commit the robbery,' he said.
'They commuted in a truck and fled from the spot after loading the looted items in it', Singh added.
