Friday 6th June, 2008

A total of 23 people have been killed and almost 70 injured in two separate bomb attacks on buses in Sri Lanka.

In the capital Colombo, 21 people were killed when the bus in which they were travelling hit a landmine.

The blast occurred at rush hour in one of the city's southern suburbs.

The army say Tamil Tiger rebels were behind the explosion.

Several hours later, two people were killed by a bomb attack on a bus in the central town of Polgolla.

The attacks come just two days after an explosion on board a train on the outskirts of Colombo injured 18 people.
