Indian equities markets open with an upswing

Mumbai May 16 (IANS) Indian equities markets opened in the green zone Friday, taking off from the positive close overnight and mirroring strong cues from global markets.
The 30-share benchmark sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, the Sensex, opened with a gain of 122.87 points at 17,476.41.
All sectoral indices on the BSE barring FMCG were in the green.
The S&P Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange opened with a marginal gain, but above the 5,000-point mark, at 5,115.65 with a gain of 0.4 percent. Within minutes it climbed to 5,143.90.
Other Asian markets were also going strong.
