Shiv Sena men target Bombay Stock Exchange

Continuing their campaign against the use of former name of this metropolis, Shiv Sena workers Tuesday demonstrated outside the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) here even as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil urged the party to refrain from their agitation.
The police arrested five Shiv Sainiks when they raised slogans against the persistent use of 'Bombay' in the title of the country's oldest stock exchange. Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena chief Abhijit Panse led the protesters.
The demonstrators gave a 15-day ultimatum to BSE authorities to change the exchange's name to Mumbai Stock Exchange, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut told reporters.
Insisting that it was the job of the government to enforce the use of the state capital's name 'Mumbai' everywhere, Patil told reporters that the government would take initiative in the matter.
Earlier in the day, the deputy chief minister, who holds the home portfolio, held a marathon meeting of top police officers to review the law and order situation in Mumbai and other places in the state.
Shiv Sena activists Sunday held similar demonstrations in front of textile firm Bombay Dyeing's showroom in Lower Parel, the Bombay Scottish School in Mahim and Bombay Lunch Home in Girgaum, damaging the name boards.
They also burnt copies of Bombay Times, a supplement of the Times of India, in front of the newspaper's office in Fort area and its suburban Kandivli press the same day.
