Brazil police arrest Swiss money man

Calcutta News.Net
Thursday 24th April, 2008

Police in Brazil have arrested a Credit Suisse executive on suspicion of helping wealthy Brazilian clients launder money.

Christian Peter Weiss, a Swiss citizen, was seized after a police search turned up documents which allegedly incriminated him in a scheme which allowed Brazilians to send money abroad without paying taxes.

According to police, he will now be added to a list of suspects compiled as part of a long-running investigation into alleged tax evasion by rich Brazilians with the connivance of Swiss banks.

Weiss was arrested in an upmarket hotel on Rio's Ipanema beach.

Credit Suisse in Brazil has not confirmed his arrest.
