Gujarat offers business counselling to small, medium units

In a novel public-private experiment, the Gujarat government and the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) have opened a counselling centre to assist micro as well as small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in finding solutions to business problems that crop up due to globalisation.
The service will be available free for now. A team of professionals has been formed for helping MSMEs and entrepreneurs to solve their immediate problems and move ahead with their business.
'This is the first of its kind centre in India. Through this new and convenient service we are offering all business people and managers an opportunity to personally discuss the issues that they face with leading professionals in the field and seek appropriate guidance,' AMA executive director K.K. Nair told IANS.
He said AMA has identified several typical issues that could affect the operations MSMES. They include productivity, capacity utilisation, cost control, line balancing, re-engineering, work culture improvement, tackling logistics, making business plans, resolving conflicts, performance management, succession planning, re-deployment and problems in export and import.
The service is initially being provided every other Friday and Saturday and the frequency could be increased depending on the response.
It will operate under the Government of Gujarat-AMA Centre for International Trade, which also conducts a post-graduate diploma in international trade.
The state government wants the centre to move forward and help businesses in Gujarat to cope with the impact of globalisation. Global markets offer MSMES with many opportunities to enhance their business expanding in big markets and creating new niche marks even as it is throwing up threats and challenges.
The counselling centre has been designed to help entrepreneurs in meeting their challenges, Nair told IANS.
