16 killed in Himachal road accident

Sixteen people of a marriage party were killed Sunday when an overloaded jeep they were travelling in fell into a dry bed of the river Sutlej in Himachal Pradesh, police said.
The accident took place around 3 a.m. on a winding mountain road near the town of Rampur, 135 km from here. Rescue teams could reach the spot only after daybreak.
'The vehicle was carrying the marriage party from Nirmand village to Kumarsain when the driver suddenly lost control and the vehicle rolled down the hill into the river bed,' said Dalip Negi, SDM Rampur.
All the sixteen bodies have been identified. The dead include four married couples. A young boy injured seriously is the lone survivor in the accident.
