Three terrorists among 70 Pakistanis freed at Wagah border
Calcutta News.Net Tuesday 14th August, 2007 (IANS)
Three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were among the 70 Pakistani nationals freed by India Tuesday as a goodwill gesture on the occasion of Pakistan's independence day.
The Pakistanis, lodged in various jails in the country, were released by Indian authorities at the Wagah joint border check point Tuesday, 30 km from here.
Those released included 44 fishermen.
On Monday, Pakistan released 135 Indian prisoners, including 100 fishermen from Gujarat, at the Wagah border.
The three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists released by India had actively participated in the militancy movement in Kashmir.
Though happy to be going back home, the three terrorists seemed unrepentant for their militant acts in Kashmir, saying that it was 'jihad' (holy war).
Mohammed Akram, who spent 14 years in Indian jails after being caught by security forces with an AK-47 assault rifle, said that he was not released despite his seven-year jail term being over a long time ago.
'We came here for jihad for our Kashmiri Muslim brethren. If we get the chance, we will do it again,' he said.
Similar views were expressed by another freed terrorist Amzad Ali.
Security officials, especially from the Border Security Force (BSF), did not say anything about the repatriation of these terrorists and their statements regarding waging war in Kashmir.
Other prisoners said that they were happy to be going back home on the day their country is celebrating 60 years of its independence.
