Russian police officers targeted by extremists

Calcutta News.Net
Wednesday 18th July, 2007 (BigNewsNetwork.com)

At least four Russian police officers have been killed in a bomb blast. Three others were injured.

The bomb was planted and went off in a school playground in Kizilyurt, in southern Russia.

Russian schools are currently on northern summer holiday but the buildings were being used for remedial teaching over the period.

Attacks against security officers are frequent in Dagestan, the southern Russian province where Kizilyurt is located and which borders war-ravaged Chechnya.

They are often claimed by separatist rebels and Islamist extremists.
