Honda wants U.K. to adopt the euro
Calcutta News.Net Thursday 24th May, 2007
The head of Honda Takeo Fukui, says the UK's reluctance to swap the pound for the euro is a big problem and has made car manufacturing in Britain very difficult.
Mr Fukui says Honda made a mistake with Britain and the company has no plans to expand at Honda's Swindon facility which employs 5,000 people.
Using a U.K. plant to build cars for Western European consumers exposes Honda to additional currency volatility as the value of the pound moves against the euro.
Honda is not the only manufacturer to have criticised the UK's decision not to adopt the euro.
Japanese rival Nissan has also said in the past that retaining the pound threatens jobs at its Sunderland plant.
